Using FTP To upload your website

All accounts with EcoHosting have access to FTP services. Here are some things to rememebr when using FTP:

  1. Your FTP server is your domain name (either ftp.yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com). If your domain name is not yet switched over to our DNS serverrs then you can use the EcoHosting server name in your original email or the IP mentioned in that same email.
  2. Your username and password are the same as the cPanel access. This too was supplied in your original sign-up email.
  3. Your FTP client must be set to use Passive Mode.
  4. Your website's root folder is /public_html/ (or /www/). This is where you must upload your website's index file.

NOTE: FTP is one of the original protocols written for the internet. Being so old it is not very efficient when using network resourses. It is very easy to reach hundreds of open connections when uploading many files. Having multiple FTP sessions open from one computer or network may result in your IP being temporarily blocked by our server if more than 500 connections are open at any given time. This is not recommended as repeated temporary blocks will eventually lead to a permanent block.
